The Shameless Commerce Department

When we moved to Asheville in 2002, we found a piece of property up on a hillside about 10 minutes from downtown Asheville and built a modular house on it. That was probably the second-most stressful thing we've ever done next to the time we built a modular as a spec house. That house was smaller and simpler, but it was more stressful because like our own, we ended up not getting it finished until literally hours before our construction loan deadline. Plus, there was the added stress of going to all that trouble with the only reward being the knowledge that we were probably the only people alive who could manage to lose money in the Asheville real estate market.

But anyway, we loved our own house in Asheville and regret the fact that society stubbornly refused to pay us simply to live there. So the next best thing is to get other people to pay us to live there themselves, at least temporarily. So we've put the place up as a vacation rental. It makes us a little nervous to have strangers running around it, but it should do pretty well because Asheville is a big tourist town, we're really close to the popular downtown and since we built it to try to withstand our own pack of wild hounds, we could make it pet-friendly.
