And... we're off! Again!

So we're about to move again, which probably comes as no surprise to anyone. Does U-Haul have a frequent renter program?

This time, the Evans clan is saying goodbye to Greensboro, North Carolina and moving to Bradenton, Florida. Actually, we never seem to say goodbye to Greensboro for long, since we've now moved here on four separate occasions. But we'll be Floridians for a couple of years, at least. After two years as a regional medical specialist for her company, Leslie's made the switch over to sales and is set to conquer the Sarasota-Bradenton-Tampa region. And thanks to this cool new Internet fad, I'm going to be able to give my best shot at continuing to cover Triad business news for the paper from a conveniently located home office 694 miles away.

For a while it looked like we were heading back to the Atlanta area, but that fell through at near the last minute. We were pretty disappointed at that because it looked to be a really good territory for Leslie, but the Florida idea followed pretty quickly. Leslie spent quite a bit of time in Florida last year, but I've only been there once and never to the area where we're moving and to be honest, we weren't that excited about it. Everyplace we looked at online looked pretty cookie-cutter and we've always kind of considered ourselves mountain people rather than beach people. But we could take it for a while.

Until! We happened across a rental listing for what is almost literally our dream house (http://ping.fm/u9yyz), and thanks I suppose to the state of the real estate market down there, we were able to line it up for an affordable price, and furnished with furniture that is way, way nicer than our own junk. It's on the Braden River, a bit inland so driving distance to the beach, but a gorgeous spot for being right in the city. We've kayaked down dozens of rivers and always fantasized about having a place right on the water, and from here we'll be able to float right out of our backyard and paddle a couple of miles down to Linger Lodge for lunch. There's nothing built across the river so it looks pretty private, and there's even a little pool to escape the heat in. We've been warned to make sure the dogs stay away from the gators in the river, but Shelties hate getting wet so we're pretty sure they'll keep clear.

So between Leslie's great new job, my gratitude for being able to keep my existing job in the rapidly disappearing newspaper industry, and getting to live an awesome house for a couple of years, we're now officially really excited about moving. We pack up those things that we bothered to unpack here back in November on Thursday, and should be settled in to the new place by Friday afternoon.

Our landlord is leaving her kayaks, so we'll have extras for visitors!
